Prior to launching VirtGroup in
April 2000, Jeff Dick worked as a consultant for Syngenesis Corporation,
a financial and actuarial consulting firm, and later as Vice
President of Insurebest, Canada's first virtual life insurance
company. His experiences at both firms encompass the application
of technological and intellectual capital in order to achieve
sustainable competitive advantages.
While serving as Vice President
of Insurebest, Jeff designed and deployed Canada's first detailed
web-based policy illustration system. Other companies have since
introduced limited quotation systems that have yet to approach
the level of detail and sophistication of the Insurebest Web
Illustrations. Insurebest was the also the first to provide completely
personalized illustration options to brokers, either via login
to the Insurebest web site or by integrating the technology into
preexisting broker web sites.
In his role as a consultant with
Syngenesis Corporation, Jeff delivered value to client companies
in actuarial, financial and technological realms by leveraging
physical and intellectual technologies and was a primary force
in the development of the most sophisticated financial modeling
system available in Canada. His clients included many of Canada's
largest life insurance companies.
As a principal and Chief Technology
Officer of VirtGroup, Jeff is responsible for development, implementation
and management of the technical infrastructure, as well as research
and strategic planning, particularly regarding emerging technologies
and their roles in delivering value. His primary talents lie
in taking existing technologies and finding innovative approaches
and applications, often shattering "traditional" sensibilities
in the process.
Jeff has been a featured speaker
on the topic of emerging technologies and business intelligence
at a variety of professional venues in the life insurance industry.
He has also served on the Computer Science Section Council and
the Web Advisory Board of the Society of Actuaries.
In October of 1999, Jeff spoke
to a gathering at the Life Brokers of Canada. Most of the developments
that he predicted back then are starting to emerge as reality.
